A first visit is short, gentle and mostly about getting comfortable. Dr. Joshua Kohan moves at your child's pace, shows them each tool before it's used, and leaves plenty of time for your questions.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. The visit lasts 30 to 45 minutes and covers a gentle exam of the teeth, gums and jaw, plus guidance on brushing and teething. Parents stay with their child throughout. If your child is older and hasn't been seen yet, the right time is now.
Nothing happens without an explanation first. Here's the order things usually go in, so you can tell your child what to expect.
Your child gets a moment to look around while the front desk handles paperwork.
Dr. Kohan says hello at your child's eye level and lets them hold the mirror first.
A look at teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Little ones can sit knee-to-knee, facing you.

Brushing, diet and habit tips for your child's age, plus the date for the next visit.
If your child needs longer to warm up, we give them that time rather than pushing through. A cleaning can wait until the next visit if that keeps the first one positive.
A little preparation goes a long way. Tick things off as you pack.
Even reassuring words like "it won't hurt" plant the idea. These swaps keep the visit sounding like what it is.

What a GREAT OFFICE ! The whole team is so welcoming and really makes you feel at ease ! My son was so so anxious about his visit and first time getting cavities filled and they really took their time and made him feel like he was safe and in such good hands. My daughter has alot of crowding, and in between baby and mature teeth phase and needs a braces, everyone was non judgemental about her teeth and treated her and myself with kindness. And after all that they have a prize for the kids. Definitely recommended this dentist office.
